Strategies that can increase the likelihood of success are vital. The FDA and EMA recognize that biomarker-based drug development strategies could be the solution in combination with translation research. This approach offers a biology-focused pathway that reduces time and cost and enhances the overall likelihood of success.<\/p>\n<p>Nordic Bioscience combines innovative translational models with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/technology\/nordic-proteinfingerprint-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ProteinFingerPrint Technology\u2122<\/a>\u00a0to translate findings effectively. This is facilitated by utilizing the same biomarkers across different clinical stages of development, creating a link between the preclinical model and the clinic. This strategically selected development route greatly enhances the efficiency of drug development pipelines.<\/p>\n<p>The integration of biomarker-based drug development strategies in translational research accelerates the progression of therapeutics and increases the likelihood of success. For this purpose, we have assessed the ability of our biomarkers to bridge the gap between patients with a rheumatological disease and our various model systems. Our investigations have revealed that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/technology\/nordic-proteinfingerprint-technology\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2167\">ProteinFingerPrint\u2122\u00a0<\/a>biomarkers, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker\/c1m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"biomarker\" data-id=\"1217\">C1M<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker\/c2m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"biomarker\" data-id=\"930\">C2M<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker\/c3m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"biomarker\" data-id=\"940\">C3M<\/a>, reflecting cartilage and soft tissue destruction can be modulated by anti-catabolic treatments. Stimulating human cartilage with proinflammatory cytokines (Figure 3A+B) induces increased aggrecan and type II collagen degradation. Increasing concentrations of an ADAMTS5 inhibitor (Figure 3A) or Fostamatinib, a SYK inhibitor, (Figure 3B) significantly reduces cartilage destruction. Using macromolecular crowding, the model becomes more 3D-like and increases complexity, making it a suitable translational model.<\/p>\n        <\/div>   \n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"two-column-text group  bg-\">\n   <div class=\"inner lg:p-8 xl:p-10 p-5 max-w-[1440px] mx-auto flex gap-4 lg:flex-row lg:gap-8 xl:gap-10 flex-col\">\n        <div class=\"w-full left-column lg:w-1\/2 xl:w-1\/2 wysiwyg\">\n             <p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By stimulating fibroblast-like-synoviocytes with pro-fibrogenic cytokines, we can model joint fibrosis in vitro and evaluate the efficacy of treatment using the Nordic ProteinFingerPrint\u2122 biomarkers. Thus, we can determine efficacy by measuring collagen formation in the supernatants, allowing direct translation to clinical settings.<\/p>\n<p>As shown in Figure 5., we can induce fibrogenesis with profibrotic stimuli and subsequently inhibit fibrogenesis by increasing anti-fibrotic or anti-inflammatory treatment concentrations.
