Biomarkers are essential components in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>However, in order to translate the results provided by biomarkers, regulators and clinical trialists alike require unambiguous interpretation and communication.<\/p>\n<p>To address this, the FDA-NIH Joint Leadership Council established a framework and vocabulary for how biomarkers can be interpreted, including their use and their significance: the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK326791\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Biomarkers, EndpointS, and other Tools (BEST) glossary<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"blog-item beelab hover\">\n<div class=\"container-fluid container-master\">\n<div class=\"block block-mb-small block-imgs-nn block-grid block-theme-white block-v-sm block-bar text-left fancyfake-item\">\n<div class=\"row mx-0\">\n<div class=\"col-12 px-0\">\n<div class=\"block-content\">\n<p>BEST is developed to accurately distinguish between different biomarker properties, in the context of biomedical research, clinical practice, drug development and regulatory considerations and use. The most frequently used classes of biomarkers in relation to drug development include\u00a0<em>diagnostic, prognostic, monitoring, response, and prognostic biomarker can identify patients that are at a higher likelihood of experiencing disease progression or adverse outcome.<\/p>\n<p>A monitoring biomarker can be used to track development of
