These challenges highlight the need for better, non-invasive biomarkers to monitor disease activity and predict treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"716\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/uc-blue-rectangle-1024x716.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-27789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/uc-blue-rectangle-1024x716.webp 1024w, https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/uc-blue-rectangle-300x210.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/uc-blue-rectangle-768x537.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/uc-blue-rectangle.webp 1132w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>ECM biomarkers in ulcerative colitis <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>In our recently published paper &#8220;Circulating Extracellular Matrix Products as Indicators of Disease Burden and Predictors of Disease Course in Ulcerative Colitis&#8221;, we identified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-portfolio\/c7m\/\">C7M<\/a> (MMP-9\/13-degraded type VII collagen \u03b11-chain), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-solution\/nordic-pro-c3\/\">nordicPRO-C3\u2122<\/a> (type III collagen formation), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-portfolio\/pro-c22\/\">PRO-C22<\/a> (turnover of type XXII collagen) as biomarkers of endoscopic disease severity and treatment response in UC.<br><br>We found that a combination of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-solution\/nordic-pro-c3\/\">nordicPRO-C3\u2122<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-portfolio\/pro-c22\/\">PRO-C22<\/a> predicted endoscopic outcomes at week 24, while lower levels of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-portfolio\/c7m\/\">C7M<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-portfolio\/c3m\/\">C3M<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nordicbioscience.com\/biomarker-solution\/nordic-pro-c3\/\">nordicPRO-C3\u2122<\/a> ratio were associated with endoscopic response. Notably, this is the first time that MMP-mediated type VII collagen degradation has been linked to disease severity in UC, highlighting its potential role in epithelial damage and barrier dysfunction.<br><br>These biomarkers provide a non-invasive means to assess transmural disease activity and disease extent, addressing a critical gap in disease burden monitoring.
